How to Use ChatGPT for Google Ads: Search-Term Audit and 5 Professional Prompts

iconAugust 12, 2026

Lia reviewing a Google Ads campaign table with an AI-assisted analysis workflow.

Direct answer

Yes, ChatGPT can help analyse Google Ads exports, classify search terms, challenge ad copy and structure experiments. It should not make unverified account changes. The reliable workflow is export, validate, analyse, review and test.

Step 1: export verifiable data

In Google Ads, open the Search terms report, choose a useful date range and download CSV or XLSX. Include campaign, ad group, search term, match type, keyword, impressions, clicks, cost, conversions and conversion value when available. Google notes that low-volume queries may be omitted for privacy.

Step 2: protect the data

Before upload, remove customer identifiers, emails, phone numbers, click IDs and CRM notes. Review the data controls of the workspace you use. OpenAI states that Business, Enterprise and API business data is not used to train models by default; personal workspaces have separate controls.

Super prompt: evidence-based search-term audit

Act as a senior Google Ads analyst. I will upload a search-terms export. First map the actual column names and list every required field that is missing. Never invent unavailable data. Separate facts, calculations and hypotheses. Use only rows present in the file and cite the search term or row identifier behind every recommendation.

Business context: [offer], [country], [margin], [approved conversion], [target CPA or ROAS], [brand exclusions].

Tasks:
1. Audit data quality, date range, currency and conversion definitions.
2. Classify each meaningful query by intent: irrelevant, research, comparison, commercial or brand.
3. Propose negative-keyword candidates, but flag ambiguity and never apply them automatically.
4. Identify new keyword, ad-group and landing-page opportunities only when supported by repeated query evidence.
5. Detect spend/conversion anomalies and explain whether they are facts or hypotheses.
6. Return five tables: data issues, query clusters, negative candidates, growth opportunities and a 14-day test plan.
7. End with the five questions you still need answered before any account change.

Five production prompts

  • Prompt 1 - data QA: Map every column, period, currency and missing input before analysing performance.
  • Prompt 2 - search intent: Group real queries by intent and quote the evidence behind every cluster.
  • Prompt 3 - negatives: Suggest candidates with an ambiguity flag, business rationale and reversible test.
  • Prompt 4 - RSA review: Check whether headlines and descriptions cover distinct benefits and can work in any combination; never claim policy approval.
  • Prompt 5 - experiment plan: Convert the strongest findings into a 14-day plan with baseline, one changed variable, success threshold and rollback rule.

Step 3: human review and experiment

Ask ChatGPT to produce proposed actions, never executed actions. A human must review brand ambiguity, conversion quality, tracking integrity and business margin before negatives or bidding changes are applied.

Google: responsive search ads, Google Ads policies.

What the file cannot tell you

ChatGPT cannot diagnose landing-page behaviour, consent loss, offline conversion quality or bidding constraints from a search-term file alone. If the relevant data is missing, the correct answer is a verification question, not a confident recommendation.

ChatGPT for Google Ads is not ChatGPT Ads

This tutorial is about using ChatGPT to analyse Google Ads. It is not about buying ads inside ChatGPT. For that separate product, read the ChatGPT Ads and OpenAI Ads Manager guide.

If the export is difficult to interpret or the account has conflicting GA4, GTM, Consent Mode or CRM signals, use the CreatikLab Google Ads service platform. Lia can preserve the context and continue the diagnosis with a senior specialist.
